Social Unplugged

We are all already a part of social media, we are on it right now – we think, we blink, we smile, we live in cardboard boxes, one connected to the other, the other to many; some demand attention, some knock on your door and some view you through the glass window – others keep you distracted from what really matters: People!

The variety and evolving stand-alone and built-in social media services introduces a challenge of definition. The terminology is often unclear, with some referring to social media as social networks.

The term social media are usually used to describe social networking sites such as: Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Instagram and Snapchat

Merriam Webstar defines social media as,”Forms of electronic communication through which people create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, etc.”

Social media technologies take many different forms including blogs, business networks, enterprise social networks, forums, microblogs, photo sharing, products/services review, social bookmarking, social gaming, social networks, video sharing, and virtual worlds.

The idea that social media are defined by their ability to bring people together has been seen for too long as too broad a definition.

Social Media is about the people! Provide for the people and the people will provide for you.

As elements of advocacy & engagement evolve and morph into something new, we inevitably become more reliant on the behavior & technology that enable them.

Globally, the theme now is “new elements of advocacy & engagement” including influence, content, 1 on 1 messaging, people and culture, and how the very fabric of human engagement is being transformed by these advances in ways of interaction.

Social Media and Advocacy is born from cultue and not technology and marketing. Culture is at the heart and soul of anything and everything social.  Social Unplugged aims to help bring about a richer understanding of the foundations of the new social media marketing landscape and acquire a new set of stories, concepts, and tools to help them socially create, distribute, promote and price products and services.
