Sensor Tower acquires market intelligence platform data.ai

Today marks a major milestone for our company as we’ve acquired marketing intelligence platform data.ai, formerly known as App Annie. The addition of data.ai’s product, input data, and team significantly advances Sensor Tower as a leader in measuring the global digital economy.

Today we announce an historic event in the Sensor Tower story as we have acquired mobile marketing firm data.ai, formerly known as App Annie.

The acquisition represents a significant advancement for Sensor Tower, expanding our customer base, mobile marketing and app intelligence products, and our presence across the globe. As Sensor Tower is the foremost data provider on the global digital economy for top brands, agencies, gaming publishers and investors, this strategic move will allow us to further strengthen our position as the leader in digital marketing and mobile app intelligence.

“Today we celebrate the beginning of a new and exciting chapter, not only for Sensor Tower, but for the digital marketing and mobile app intelligence industry as a whole.” Oliver Yeh, CEO of Sensor Tower

Founded in 2010, data.ai’s record of mobile app measurement, unique data science methodologies, global footprint, and amazing team have challenged both companies to innovate and heighten the depth and breadth of our products. The combined company seeks to offer our customers even stronger and more granular insights on the digital customer journey.

“Since 2010, data.ai has helped some of the finest brands and publishers globally to optimize their mobile performance. This evolution offers the best path to innovation, more insights across more channels, and ultimately, more value derived by clients.” Ted Krantz, CEO of data.ai

This comes at a moment when consumers are steadily increasing the amount of time they spend socializing, playing, watching and shopping across digital channels. In 2023, consumers spent $130 billion on global in-app purchases, and that trend is only expected to continue, with increased activity as major platforms like Google, Meta, TikTok, Instagram, and Snap invest heavily in user acquisition, retention, and monetization.

“Merging data.ai and Sensor Tower bolsters data quality, accuracy, and coverage — across consumer demographics and geographies — while bolstering data privacy, and compliance to local data protection laws. The combined company becomes the gold standard for how first party data from publishers, and data from consumer facing utility applications, can be stitched together under a unique differential privacy framework, to deliver value to customers seeking to better understand and participate in the digital economy.” Ramesh Venugopal, Partner at Riverwood Capital and member of Sensor Tower’s Board of Directors.

As we embark on this new journey together, we’re excited for the future, and maintain a clear focus on bringing our customers the best and most innovative digital marketing products.
