Sowt launches ‘Shamandar’ podcast, the first audio channel dedicated to children in the region, at Dubai PodFest 2024

Sowt, a prominent independent podcast production company, announced the launch of ‘Shamandar’, an innovative new Arabic podcast channel for children featuring engaging and innovative content designed to inspire young minds and broaden their knowledge.

The announcement was made during the fourth edition of the Dubai PodFest organised by the Dubai Press Club on Monday. The launch of the podcast channel underscores DPC’s commitment to promote future digital trends and high-quality audio content that caters to Arabic-speaking audiences across all ages.

Ramsey Tesdell, Founder and CEO of Sowt, stated, “We are thrilled to launch the first phase of the ‘Shamandar’ podcast channel for families throughout the Arab world. We invite Arab families to discover our innovative range of inspiring programmes and stories for children, crafted to entertain, educate, and deepen their connection to Arab language, culture, and heritage.”

Mahfoudha Abdullah, Project Manager of Dubai PodFest, said: “We are proud that Dubai PodFest serves as both an Arab and international platform for launching numerous innovative initiatives that support the Arab podcasting industry.”

“We are excited that Sowt has chosen to unveil the first podcast of its kind dedicated to children during the fourth edition of Dubai PodFest held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council,” she added.

Abdullah highlighted DPC’s commitment to supporting its partners amid the significant advancements in the podcast industry worldwide and in the Arab region, particularly in light of global shifts in audio content consumption.

In addition to Shamandar’s original content, the podcast will feature innovative collaborations with creators who resonate with children, including Adam Wa Mishmish, a children’s platform that blends music and education, and Dar Al Salwa, an award winning independent publishing house dedicated to publishing Arabic children and young adult books. These partnerships will enhance Shamandar’s offerings and ensure that each story deeply resonates with listeners, enriching their connection to their language and culture.

The trial phase of the Shamandar podcast can be accessed on Apple Podcasts and other streaming platforms, with new episodes released regularly.
