The two studios have partnered to form a distribution company aimed at licensing 4,000 movies and 17,000 TV shows to third-party platforms, including streaming, premium VOD, transactional VOD and digital retail.
Amazon Studios says licensing these properties “generates significant third-party licensing and transactional revenue for the studio.”
Amazon MGM Studios Distribution, the unit will be headed by longtime MGM executive Chris Ottinger, who reports to Brad Beale, VP of worldwide licensing and distribution at Amazon and MGM Studios. Beale reports to Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon/MGM Studios.
Sales of the new content will launch out of LA Screenings, with Amazon MGM Studios Distribution holding presentations on Friday, May 19 and Monday, May 22 at Amazon Studios’ home in Culver City.
