Following the much-anticipated announcement of his upcoming new business venture the Mike Tyson Academy (MTA), the global boxing icon hosted a gala dinner on May 6, 2017 at the Dubai Ballroom, JW Marriott Marquis Dubai dubbed “In Conversation with Mike Tyson”.
Organised in collaboration with Fred Frenchy Corp and Fashsouq.com, this mesmerising evening featured an insightful conversation with the legend himself, presented by Chris McHardy, Head of Sports for Dubai Eye, and an exciting auction of a gold statue of Mike created by renowned French sculptor Jean Baptiste Seckler, which received a winning bid of AED 30,000.
On being asked whether he would make a return to boxing, Mike made it very clear that his focus for the future was working on the MTA and incorporating his own personal disciplined approach to every branch of the academy he opens.
The evening commenced with the red carpet being rolled out for celebrities such as professional boxer and holder of the title of Britain’s youngest boxing Olympic medallist Amir Khan and his beautiful wife FaryalMakhdoom. Pakistani actresses Ayesha Omar and MominaMustehsanalso added some major star-studded presence to the event. The entertainment for the night was provided by local rising star Layla Kardan who had the audiences spellbound with her signature undertones of jazz and soul music, infused with Middle Eastern and poetic movements as well as international DJ Anais B who flew in from Paris to treat guests to her unique beats.
