The Middle East communication industry experienced triple-digit growth in 2016, according to research published by the Holmes Report, with an additional top place ranking in a list of the UAE’s top growth industries, two places ahead of the oil and gas industry. Driven by high levels of digital connection, mobile penetration and the emergence of Dubai as the first Smart City in the Middle East, media, communications and PR are expected to continue their upward growth trajectory over the coming years with the Dubai Press Club calculating the overall media market in the region will be worth US$12.4 billion by 2018.
Meanwhile, following the emergence features such as user generated content, instant sharability and social media it is expected the next decade will be defined by augmented and virtual reality and content that can be converged over multiple platforms as the launch of new devices and improved connectivity continues to lead the development of the media industry.
