NowThis Earth and Mongabay Expand Partnership

On The Heels of Successful Video-First Content Partnership, NowThis Earth to Include Written Content Offerings

NowThis Audiences Are Five Times More Likely to Engage With Sustainability-Focused Coverage Than Any Other Topic

NowThis, the no.1 most-watched mobile news brand globally [Tubular Labs, June 2020], is extending its partnership with environmental science news outlet  Mongabay to expand to written content with a dedicated NowThis Earth page on the NowThis website. This weekly written content offering will deepen NowThis Earth’s initial, video-first launch partnership with The Global Commons Alliance and Mongabay, focusing on comprehensive coverage of human impact on our planet and actionable solutions, bringing environmental news to young audiences in new and engaging ways.

Mongabay — a conservation and environmental science news outlet — is dedicated to covering the latest stories to signify the urgency surrounding our planetary health. With more than 675 journalists in nearly 80 countries, Mongabay brings a global network of local reporters  for NowThis to tap into for its diversified approach to reporting from around the world.

“The planet’s environmental crises are growing exponentially every day, and NowThis Earth is working to close the news and information gap on big picture concerns beyond climate, to include environmental justice, biodiversity, and the fate of Earth’s systems as a whole,” said NowThis President Athan Stephanopoulos. “We couldn’t be more excited to extend our partnership with Mongabay and now bring digestible written coverage to young audiences on these pressing environmental issues.”

“Mongabay’s mission is to provide accurate and actionable information on the climate and environmental challenges we face,”  said Mongabay Founder and CEO Rhett A. Butler. “This collaboration with NowThis increases our ability to reach global young audiences in an accessible and effective manner, and spark action among these audiences and decision-makers in charge of shaping policies that affect our futures.”

Mongabay is an award-winning, nonprofit news organization that averages 9 million unique visitors each month, which positions the organization as one of the top sources of environmental news, analysis, information, and inspiration on the Internet. Mongabay’s content is published in 10 languages, prioritizing coverage in regions facing acute socio-environmental threats.

NowThis Earth is NowThis’ latest effort to deepen its coverage on sustainability and the environment for its young audience. In the last year, NowThis audiences have racked up nearly 600 million views on coverage of the issue. NowThis audiences are also five times more likely to engage with sustainability-focused coverage than any other topic, and 68% of NowThis audiences have recently performed an environmentally friendly action.

NowThis Earth most recently interviewed former Secretary of State and current United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry in his first conversation after President Joe Biden announced a landmark executive order on climate action. In an exclusive with NowThis host and correspondent Zinhle Essamuah, Kerry discussed the administration’s agenda on climate and re-engaging in the global climate arena, as well as the impact of young climate activists promoting visibility on the climate crisis.
