Sage Middle East, the leading provider of business management solutions delved into the complex and exciting world of ubiquitous computing trends in business by hosting a luncheon discussion on trends in disruptive technologies at Dubai’s Shangri-La Hotel on 20thJanuary.
The luncheon held in Dubai is the latest edition of Sage’s GCC series of discussions on trends in technology for business. The distinctive event focusing on technological trends and developments is a part of Sage’s efforts at invoking discussions and knowledge sharing amongst thought leaders, government personnel, entrepreneurs, managers, and C-level executives across the UAE.
“One of our goals at the luncheon was to outline to the business community here in the UAE, the trends and their accompanying challenges to be mindful of, and highlight the Sage products and services to mitigate and manage these challenging but fascinating changes,” Mr. Jeremy Waterman, Managing Director Sage ERP Africa & Middle East said in relation to Sage’s commitment to driving and managing technological change and development.
The use of technology in business operations, manufacturing, and processes is well documented. However, disruptive technologies lead to the creation of new markets and value networks while displacing old markets and methodologies when appropriately managed. Understandably, technologies of this nature cause immense change and challenges that need similar innovative processes and policies in places to identify, manage, maintain and grow company profits and value.
Data analytics, mobility, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT) are amongst the range of topics that were explored. “For instance, IoT is an important node in Industry 4.0. However, not many are aware of Industry 4.0 which is usually defined as the fourth wave of the industrial revolution. Through luncheon we explored not only what is meant by terms such as IoT, Industry 4.0, and data analytics but discussed how these can be applied to various business organizations and specific business functions,’’ said Mr. Reggie Fernandes, Vice President, Sage X3 Middle East, Regional Director – Sage Middle East.
The UAE’s drive towards entrepreneurship, promotion of SME’s, and policy documents that support smart initiatives are instrumental in the development of non-oil sectors such as logistics, manufacturing, and construction in the country. The use of technological innovation such as Industry 4.0, data analytics, cloud computing, will lead to value creation along entire product life-cycles, reduced risks, increased utilization of opportunities, increased competitiveness, and development of human capital.
